Finding Balance as a Mom of Twins
A Day in the Life
There’s a myth that “balance” as a mom means doing it all, all the time. But here’s what I’ve learned: balance isn’t about perfection. It’s about finding a rhythm that fills you up, even on the busiest days. As a mom of twins, life is filled with double the joy, double the giggles, and—yes—double the everything. Some days, it feels like I’m wearing every hat all at once. But on the good days, the ones where everything clicks, it’s pure magic.
Here’s a look at my version of a “perfect day”—one that starts in the calm before dawn and ends with a full heart.
5:00 AM: The Calm Before the Storm
While the world sleeps, I’m up with my Alani, soaking in the stillness and savoring a few minutes just for me. This is my time to set intentions for the day and sometimes write—whether I’m sharing my story here or jotting down thoughts just for myself. This early morning routine grounds me, reminding me that I’m still me, before the whirlwind of the day begins.
6:00-6:30 AM: Rise and Shine, Little Ones!
After a few quiet sips, it’s time to wake the babies. Every morning, they greet me with the biggest smiles, and just like that, my cup is full. There’s a beautiful innocence to a new day with little ones—a fresh start full of possibility. Breakfast is our first shared ritual, with cuddles and that special twin energy as we start the morning together.
7:30 AM: Daycare Drop-Off and Time for Me to Switch Gears
With the babies safely off to daycare, it’s time to transition from mom mode to work mode. There’s something satisfying about diving into my job, feeling productive and capable, and knowing I’m contributing beyond home. It gives me a boost I’ll carry into the evening routine.
Midday: Lunch Date with Husband
One of my favorite parts of the day is my lunch date with my husband. It’s sometimes our only “just us” time, so we make it count—talking about everything from the kids and work to future dreams. This midday connection helps us stay grounded as a couple, even amid busy schedules.
Late Afternoon: Wrapping Up Work and Picking Up the Kids
Afternoons are about focus and hustle as I tie up loose ends and plan for tomorrow. By day’s end, I’m ready to swap my work hat for my mom hat again, racing to pick up the twins. Seeing their faces light up when I arrive is worth every ounce of energy.
Evening: Family Dinner and Unplugged Time
Once home, it’s time to prepare dinner, and with two hungry 8-month-olds, we’ve got our routine down. My husband changes the babies while I prep their bottles to make the transition smooth. Dinner becomes a family gathering, with my husband and I sharing cooking duties while the twins “help” from their high chairs. Eating together and catching up, with the twins babbling along, is grounding after the day.
After dinner, it’s all about family time. We play with the babies and embrace the fun that happens when everyone’s fully present, leaning into the joy and chaos of twin life. These are the moments that make it all worth it—the giggles, the snuggles, the tiny twin antics.
8:30 PM: The Bedtime Marathon
We wind down with a final feeding before bed, and anyone with twins will understand why bedtime is an event. There’s a lot of coaxing, patience, and sometimes a little extra rocking. But once they’re finally settled, there’s a deep sense of accomplishment (and maybe a bit of relief).
9:00 PM: Lights Out
By this point, I’m as tired as the twins! The day may have started early and been full of non-stop action, but there’s a satisfaction in knowing it was a “good day.” Even in the small, ordinary moments, I know these are the times I’ll look back on with a full heart.
While the World Sleeps…
And here I am, sipping my Alani and writing in the early hours, the only time when the house is quiet and it’s just me and my thoughts. Some days, I find this time after everyone’s drifted off to sleep; other days, like today, I’m lucky enough to write after a rare, blissful night of rest. There’s something grounding about these moments, savoring time just for myself.
Instead of sleeping, I’m choosing to share a slice of this life with you. Because being a mom of twins, balancing work, family, and self-care, is a journey we don’t have to do alone—even if it sometimes feels like we’re in it solo in these early hours.
In these quiet moments, there’s something deeply fulfilling about connecting here, sharing my day and hopes and the realness of it all. To anyone reading this, juggling their own perfect and not-so-perfect days, you’re not alone. We’re all here, finding moments of stillness, strength, and joy in the small choices we make.
Here’s to all the moms who, like me, find their “me time” before dawn or after dusk, choosing to pour into themselves and share that journey, too. Thank you for letting me spend this time with you. We’re all in this together, and together, we’re doing an amazing job.
