A Shoutout to the Supportive Partners
Finding Home on a Father’s Chest
There I was, in the middle of another sleepless evening trying to get the babies to settle. I had pulled out all the stops—rocking, bouncing, singing soft lullabies like some sort of overworked backup singer—but nothing was working. I started questioning myself: Why can’t I calm them down? What am I doing wrong?
Then, my husband stepped in. He took one baby, and in less time than it takes me to load the dishwasher, they were out like a light, nestled peacefully on his chest. For a moment, I felt a little twinge of something—jealousy, frustration? Call it what you will, but it was real. Why was it so easy for him?
But as I watched our little one sleep soundly on his chest, it hit me. This wasn’t a “me versus him” moment. This was an “us” moment. We’re a team. Sometimes I have the magic touch, and other times—like today—it’s him. And that’s kind of beautiful.
It made me realize how much our partners step in when we need it most. They may not always do things the way we would, but when they calm the chaos, it’s a reminder that we’re not in this alone. We’re sharing the journey, the sleepless nights, and the moments where just one person’s presence makes everything okay.
So, here’s to the partners who see us struggling, step in when we’re on the edge, and hold down the fort when we need a break—even if we don’t always say it out loud. You’re not just helping out; you’re building a safe, loving home for our babies, right alongside us.
I wrote a little poem about that moment today, when I realized that the same comfort I’ve found on his chest is now where our babies find their peace too. There’s something magical about that:
On your chest, I found my home,
A place of comfort, all my own.
Safe and warm, through joys and tears,
You've held me close through all our years.
Now here we sit, just side by side,
With babies nestled, arms open wide.
One rests with me, soft and sweet,
The other on your chest, heartbeat to heartbeat.
As I watch them, peaceful and still,
A quiet joy begins to fill—
The same home I knew, tender and strong,
Our babies find where they belong.
On your chest, now their place,
A haven wrapped in love's embrace.
And in this moment, I clearly see,
The home you've helped build for them and me.

To all the moms out there with partners who show up, no matter what—take a moment to appreciate them. Sometimes, they’re the calm in our storm, the steady in our chaos, and the home where our babies—and we—find comfort. 💛
